Hurricane Ivan Brings Paragliding, Rollerskating, and skydiving to Alabama Skydiving Center!

After this week’s torrential rains, everyone was stoked to head to the dropzone for a full weekend of blue skies, great friends, an awesome time of skydiving, and painting the town red-or blue in our case! Though the winds carried over into the weekend, we didn’t let that stop us from having fun: out came the paraglider! High winds are great for paragliding! Nick, a fellow skydiver, soon found out that landing a paraglider is a tad more difficult than landing a parachute, finding himself in our new “Lake Ivan”. Strong winds prevented us from skydiving most of the day, so we decided to go on a field trip!

Off to Trussville Skating Rink we went, where fate brought us to “Don”. Don was a 42-year-old roller rink master! He taught Rachael, a fellow skydiver, how to skate backwards and do a turn! After Don was shot down for a couple skate, we all decided to enter the “13 and up” race. Of course all the 12-year-olds literally skated circles around us. We hung our heads in shame and headed for the Q-zar Laser Tag, to save some face! So, after losing that game, we decided to head home to the DZ. Perhaps we should stick to skydiving!

Luckily for the Trussville youth, Sunday brought beautiful blue skies as Ivan carried the wind away. We had great skydives all day, with several tandems and lots of fun jumpers! Our new coaches, Natasha, Ken, and Jeff helped many jumpers with the requirements needed to obtain their “A” license. Also, our other Jeff aka “Fabio”, graduated AFF! Congrats Jeff! And of course we must not forget Rachael, who completed all the requirements for her “A” license. Congrats to both Rachael and Laura, now the proud owners of their very own rigs!

As our weekend closed with a great day of jumping and an adventure on the town, we toasted our resolve that no matter if we’re skydiving or skating Trussville, we will have FUN! Speaking of which, don’t forget our Chick Boogie on October 2-3 with $12 jumps for the ladies, $120 tandems, and $120 AFF jumps. There will aso be free coaching on RW Freeflying and Canopy Skills. And that’s not all folks! Then there’s dinner and beer at Sammies! So everyone come out for the skydives, and stay for the festivities!

See you this weekend at Alabama Skydiving Center!
