A Weekend of Reaching New Heights at Alabama Skydiving Center

Saturday

With the fires burning in Georgia, our early morning start was delayed by smoke covering the skies. Experienced jumpers planned their skydives for the day as they patiently waited to skydive. Brad Pilkington successfully completed Accelerated Freefall (AFF) levels 6 and 7 and his first solo! Janet Pilkington worked on her AFF jumps 4 and 5 throughout the day. Ken Knight did a training tandem, drogueless! Jeff Fincher enjoyed jumping his new 91 Chaos and made some awesome swoops this weekend, pleasing the crowd of spectators. Todd Sellers and Chris Martin led many tracking dives throughout the day, bringing Joseph Wood along to join in the fun! A party was held to celebrate Radcliff Davis and Chris Martin's graduating from college and high school, respectively. Cookie cake and Mike-n-Ike were enjoyed by all! Radcliff Davis also got pied for his 100th skydive.

Sunday

Janet Pilkington graduated her AFF program as well as made her first solo! Bill Keith, Chris Martin and Todd Sellers all jumped hard, working to win the most skydives of the weekend competition. New packer-in-training, Arryn, was working hard all day learning the ropes of packing parachutes. Ken Knight took Corn Jooste on a tandem skydive as well. A 4-way belly skydive with 2 hangers and 2 stingers was planned for the sunset load and jumpers had fun on this skydive!

Monday

Monday was definitely the best day of the weekend! Experienced jumpers had lots of time to plan their skydives and complete many successful jumps. Amy Gravlee surprised Chris Martin with an awfully foul-smelling graduation present! Ask to see the pictures on your next trip to the Alabama Skydive Center!

Phil Johnston went on his first large skydive, and jumpers enjoyed building an awesome formation off of his solid base with Rob Morris and Corn Jooste. A 4-way round with 2 back flyers and 1 stinger was built, with Chris Martin, Daniel Gunnels, Todd Sellers and Bill Keith in the base, Rob Morris and Jeff Fincher on their backs and Amy Gravlee stinging. To end a beautiful day, jumpers built a large hybrid with Todd Sellers and Laura Morris hanging and Rob Morris on video.

Jeff Fincher knows how to please the manifest girl, and told her that perhaps Mrs. Fincher would be baking something extra special for her upcoming birthday: yellow cake with chocolate frosting!

All the folks at the Alabama Skydive Center would like to wish Joseph Wood good luck in his upcoming IRON MAN competition in Hawaii!

Blue Skies!
